If you are interested in personal training for weight loss, selecting a personal trainer who never personally struggled with significant weight loss issues, or who gains muscle by driving past the gym, or was never considered fat, obese, or overweight is not in the best position to advise you on how to lose weight and keep it off because they never experienced it themselves. Some people, especially personal trainers, are only sensitive to their own weaknesses, struggles and challenges and have difficulty relating to or having empathy for circumstances that don’t directly affect them. I have personally witnessed a number of bodybuilder trainers who privately mocked and ridiculed anyone in the gym, including their own clients, who were not as “perfect” as they. Is that the type of personal trainer you want to hire?

Iron Lion Fitness Specializes in Weight Loss Programs for Men and Women
For a personal training weight loss program to be successful, it must be personally customized for each individual. Your RMR, LBM, age, height, weight, level of activity and current level of physical fitness, among other things, must be analyzed and considered. This is why popular diets and cookie-cutter weight loss gimmicks don’t work. A successful weight loss program must include a personalized nutrition and exercise plan that works for you. One without the other will accomplish counterproductive or marginal results, if any.
Iron Lion Fitness offers personal training in Orlando and online personal training worldwide and specializes in weight loss diets and exercise programs that WORK!
If you are looking to lose weight, you must put your body in the proper caloric deficit so that your body burns stored fat instead of muscle tissue. However, taking in too few calories may slow your metabolism even more causing an even greater fat accumulation. At the same time, you’ll need to keep your body in an anabolic (muscle-building) state rather than a catabolic (muscle reducing) state. This can be tricky to do, especially for someone who is not versed in nutrition and exercise and its timing and effects on the body. This is often why individuals fail at losing weight. If it was easy, no one would be overweight!
Combined with personal training, selecting a nutrition plan is critical. You will need to eat certain macronutrients at certain times in order to maximize energy for your workouts and limit fat storage later in the day. Sugars are mainly stored as fat, so they should be avoided, except a small amount of simple carbs (sugars) post-workout for a beneficial insulin spike.
Nothing from a box and nothing from a can. When you are focused on losing weight, avoid processed foods and canned foods. Processed foods contain lots of extra calories and are lacking in fiber and nutrients. Also, they are high in sodium. Too much salt can cause water-weight gain. It won’t reduce your body fat, but reducing sodium helps curb water retention.
Tracking your food intake is important in order to gauge results, measure success and determine where you need to make adjustments in your eating habits. Planning your meals is the key to keeping your nutrition program working for you. If you don’t plan things out, you will fall victim to impulse eating and poor choices.
An effective exercise program for weight loss should include at least these key components:
Resistance training – a workout for weight loss should include heavy resistance training to build muscle and strength. Heavy weight training increases your metabolism. Increasing the size of your muscles means they will require and burn more calories. Balanced with a proper nutrition program and eating certain foods at the right time, you can force your body to burn fat rather than muscle.
HIIT – High Intensity Interval Training is an exercise program consisting of brief periods of high intensity training, which can elevate your metabolism for up to 24 hours after working out. The high intensity intervals should leave you breathing hard. More calories are burned during this time.
Cardio is crucial for any fat loss program. You will need some time set aside specifically for cardio while being careful not to lose lean muscle in the process.
Tracking your results
Tracking your results is imperative. Some popular methods, aside from the obvious visual inspection and standard weight scales, are:
BMI – Body mass index monitoring is an indicator of high body fat, but it is not a preferred method of tracking results.
Body measurements using a body fat caliper is one of the oldest and most common methods of determining a person’s body composition and body fat percentage.
Bioelectrical Impedance Scales or devices computes body fat percentages using electrical currents that travel through your body. Accuracy depends on quality of the device and other factors. It’s most often used as a general assessment.
